Courses & Training

Lincolnshire ACO run training courses each off-season to encourage and develop new umpires within the local area. Our courses are run by qualified and experienced tutors and are typically run one day per week across consecutive weeks.

New Umpires Courses for the 2019/20 Season
It’s Your Call – Stage 1
This course is designed to give you an overview of the basic Laws of the game and how to apply them and introduce the principles of field craft and match management. It will give you the tools to enable you to umpire matches at the basic recreational level where there are no independent umpires appointed.
Open to all, be they prospective umpires, club umpires, players, captains, coaches, managers, scorers, student sports academic qualifiers, followers/observers of the sport. We recommend that you take both Stage 1 and Stage 2 courses. Stage 2 details further down the page.

It’s Your Call – Stage 2
This course is designed to build on Umpire Education Stage One, covering further Laws and exploring the concept of working as part of a team with a colleague and the scorers. It is intended to introduce umpires to the skills and knowledge required to be members of a league panel. It is envisaged that participants, having completed the course, refresh their understanding of these Laws and study them more thoroughly by referring to the MCC online Laws Course.

It’s Your Call – Stage 3
This course is designed for experienced umpires who aspire to stand at the highest level of league cricket and is available to anyone who has attended the Stage Two or Level 1A courses. As well as the interpretation and application of Law it also covers the management of the match, the field and the players on it. Man management and other practical aspects are also covered. The course will be suitable for those umpires who, although not aspiring to Premier League Cricket, still want to develop their skills to be the best umpire they can be.

New Scorers Courses for the 2019/2020 Season
Club Scorer
Club Scorer is the only course to comprehensively teach you how to score, a more in depth look at the ‘art’ of scoring!
This course is suitable for complete beginners and existing scorers who want to improve their skills. On completion of the course you will receive an ECB ACO Club Scorer attendance certificate and have the opportunity to do other courses to progress your scoring if you so wish.

Play Cricket Scorer Pro
This course doesn’t show you how to score but will guide you through the a wide range of topics relating to the use of Play Cricket Scorer Pro. Topics covered include:-
Clubs, Teams, Players, Locations, Officials and Match Types
Start up and set up including downloading a match from Play-Cricket.
Live Scores
Scoring locally when WiFi is not available or the match is not on Play-Cricket.
